At Mi Tierra Cafe Y Panaderia in the El Mercado (Market Square) area of San Antonio, Texas, the celebration never ends. The streamers, lights, fiesta flags and all that is sparkly decorate the multiple rooms of this famous bakery and restaurant 365 days of the year.
Location: Mi Tierra Cafe Y Panaderia, 218 Produce Row, San Antonio, Texas.
Menu: Offering authentic Mexican cuisine since 1941, the Mi Tierra menu features classics such as enchiladas, tacos, tamales, and chalupas — all served with guacamole, Spanish rice, and the requisite refried beans. The bakery features traditional sweet treats such as yoyo de pina (pineapple cake) and campechanas (turnovers).
Thoughts: This family run restaurant is massive, seating 500 guests in multiple rooms and includes a separate bar/lounge area. Even though the restaurant is large, it gets very busy especially during holiday and fiesta time. Filled with both tourists and locals the restaurant is very popular! Ensure you make reservations or expect to wait for a table. Wait staff is very friendly, efficient and happy to make menu suggestions if you aren’t familiar with the Latin cuisine.
Make sure you visit the large seating area in the back of the restaurant. In this dining room, hundreds of images of famous Latinos — everyone from the artist, Frida Kahlo to actresses Eva Longoria and Jennifer Lopez cover the wall. A Mariachi band entertains patrons nightly adding to the ambiance of the restaurant.
