One of Vicksburg, Mississippi’s newest foodie dining spots is 10 South Rooftop Bar & Grill, situated on the 10th floor of downtown’s First National Building. Not only is the food delicious and the service on point, but the restaurant offers exceptional views of the historic city of Vicksburg. From this vantage point, see the Mississippi River, Yazoo Diversion Canal, and Centennial Lake. 10 South comes at the perfect time, as rooftop establishments are all the rage across the country.

Menu: The charming 10 South Rooftop Bar & Grill features an open-air grill and a full bar with beer, wine, and signature cocktails. The chef and team create dishes including burgers, sandwiches, seafood, and Southern-inspired specialties. The ones that caught my eye were:
- Ultimate Grilled Cheese with Pepper Jack, Candied Bacon, Tomato, and Honey Dijon on Grilled Panini
- Pulled Pork in Coca-Cola BBQ Sauce w/Sugar Cane Slaw
- Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Swiss cheese, Applewood Bacon, and Honey Dijon Mustard
- Chili & Cheese Burger with 4-cheese sauce
All sandwiches and burgers come with your choice of one side dish: Mac & Cheese, Sugar Cane Slaw, Pimento Cheese Pimento Salad, Blackened Green Beans, Maple Garlic Sprouts, Mashed Potatoes, or Sea Salt Fries.
Being a true Southerner, it was heartwarming to see these items on the menu: sweet potatoes, Fried Green tomatoes, Yazoo catfish, Coca-Cola BBQ Sauce, Crystal’s hot sauce, candied bacon, Chicken and Waffles, Pimento Cheese, Mississippi Mud Brownie, and Moon Pie Bread Pudding.
The Ultimate Bloody Mary and Raspberry Lemonade cocktails sounded divine!
Thoughts: 10 South’s double-sided bar provides a great place to sit and enjoy a cocktail while looking out on Vicksburg. My son-in-law and daughter joined me there for lunch one weekend. It was our first time and we opted to dine at one of the hightop tables scattered around the bar area. A plethora of fans provided the comfort needed from the stifling Mississippi heat. Our service was on the ball and we never had to wait for drink refills, a big plus in my book. 10 South makes great condiments, so pair your fries with a tangy sauce to dip them in such as Honey Dijon (one of their best!) or Blue Cheese.
Many of the people around us were enjoying 10 South’s Sweet Potato Hummus and/or Fresh Guacamole, both served with house-made tortilla chips. We opted out of an appetizer and went right for an entree.
I tried a most-interesting sounding sandwich, “That Famous” Fried Chicken Sandwich, which is something new for me as I rarely order a chicken sandwich. The toppings lured me right in with spicy Pepper Jack cheese, candied bacon, and maple-chili glaze. Oh, my! What a spectacular choice. I could have eaten my weight in the candied bacon. My choice of side dish was the comfort food staple, Macaroni & Cheese, which I quickly devoured. It was so creamy and toothsome.
My son-in-law friend ordered the Chili Burger which was quite messy, but tasty, and became a knife and fork burger. 10 South’s menu lists the chili as “Award-winning chili” and it was really good. If ordered in a bowl, it comes topped with Cheddar cheese, green onions, and sour cream. The sea-salt dusted French fries were crisp, yet a tad soft, just the way we like them. I’m a big fan of Brussels Sprouts so I tried a side dish of them from 10 South. The sprouts had a nice blend of flavors but were a little underdone for my taste. My daughter was happy as a lark with her plain Jane Chicken Sandwich and fries.
In 10 South’s dining room, local scenery photos line the walls for a beautiful tribute to Vicksburg. TV’s hanging overhead allow guests to watch sporting events.
From comfort food favorites to local seafood plates, 10 South Rooftop Bar & Grill is a great addition to Vicksburg’s foodie scene. Don’t pass on the complementary house-seasoned pretzels served in the cute galvanized bucket. They are addictive!
