Enjoy the beauty of the Vancouver, Washington waterfront, smell the warm marine air, and savor the artistically crafted dishes at Wildfin American Grill.
Location: Wildfin American Grill, 777 Waterfront Way, Suite 101, Vancouver, Washington.
Menu: The extensive menu features sustainable seafood from the waters of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska as well as a choice of steaks, burgers, sandwiches, and chicken. With both the Alaska Sockeye Salmon and the Alaska Halibut, one can choose the type of preparation: simply grilled or seared. Other seafood dishes include snow crab, scallops, mahi-mahi, scampi, sole, and cod. Also offered is Idaho Trout.
There is also a large selection of appetizers including calamari, salmon spread, clams, tacos, and sliders.
Wildfin offers a large selection of Washington and Oregon wines and craft beers. Also available are Growlers to Go.
Thoughts: We started our meal with the garlic prawns. The jumbo white Pacific prawns were served with a delicious garlic cream sauce, along with artichoke hearts and tomatoes. To soak up the sauce, cubes of rosemary potato bread were included. Absolute heaven!
I chose the Mixed Seafood Grill as my entree. This artistically plated dish features scallops, prawns, and Alaska salmon flavored with lemon garlic vermouth butter and avocado basil lime verde. Accompaniments were asparagus and baby carrots. My companion enjoyed the grilled ribeye sandwich: served on a toasted French roll, with creamy blue cheese, grilled red onions, tomatoes, and balsamic dressed arugula. We also shared an order of Rosemary Potato Bread which was served with two types of butter: sweet fig and chive. My favorite was the chive.
Outdoor seating along the riverfront is a particular delight. There is table seating in the lounge and also bar seating along the kitchen. Tables of various sizes accommodate all kinds of parties. It was very much a family atmosphere on the Saturday we attended. Many families were dining together with participants across generations.
It was a toasty spring afternoon (87 degrees outside). We were delighted when the glass windows were opened up – bringing in a pleasant cool marine breeze.
Wildfin proudly announces their partnership with Smart Catch. Smart Catch, sponsored by the James Beard Foundation, identifies restaurants that serve seafood “caught or farmed in environmentally responsible ways”. Why is this important? It is estimated that more than 90% of the world’s fisheries are in danger. They are either fully fished or overfished. (Source: Finfish Profiles). Thus, the symbol Smart Catch helps consumers identify restaurants that strive to increase the sustainablility of the seafood supply chain.
It was delightful to notice that Wildfin also supports local community activities. In fact, the menu starts with a section titled Around Town. Local events within a two-week period are highlighted. The day we dined, there were five local events described: from farmer’s markets to parade of bands to symphony concerts and fun runs.
There is also a take-out window where you can grab a bite and enjoy it as you walk along the waterfront.
Prices: Starters begin at $4.95 for the street tacos to $16.95 for clams northwest style. The rosemary potato bread is $4.95. Seafood entrees run $19.95 to $34.95. Steaks range from $18.95 to $31.95. My companion stated: “Pricey but the service, food, and decor were above expectations. Completely worth the cost!”
