In Dallas, Texas you go big, or you go home, and that’s especially true when you visit The Rustic in Uptown Dallas. The Rustic is a casual, restaurant-bar-concert hangout where you can chill out on a Saturday night.
Owned by country music star and local Texan [amazon_textlink asin=’B01072DM6E’ text=’Pat Green’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’90df2988-5ee7-11e7-aab1-4db380a805de’], don’t be surprised if he shows up with a few friends to perform in “Pat’s Backyard” the large outdoor concert stage/patio complete with big trees, picnic tables, fire pits, porch swings, and patio lanterns. Be prepared to wait for a table because this place can get busy!
Location: 3656 Howell St, Dallas, Texas
The Menu: With 40+ beers on tap as well as an extensive selection of local wines and spirits, the menu features delicious home-style meals that use farm-fresh local ingredients – most of them from [amazon_textlink asin=’1402766874′ text=’Texas’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d08bf9d2-5ee7-11e7-b998-b31198c147b3′]. Choose your smoke – oak, hickory, cherry, or pecan wood.
A few favorites to try:
Calf Fries with Buttermilk Dip ($7.95) – If you are feeling daring in Texas, then try these “calf fries”. Battered and [amazon_textlink asin=’B014EDAB3O’ text=’deep fried bull testicles’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’dd763fba-5ee7-11e7-bbd7-eb27778e9f0f’] served with a buttermilk dip. Crispy on the outside and a bit spongy on the inside, if you don’t think about what they truly are you’ll probably enjoy them – I know I did.
4 Napkin Onion-y Rings ($6.95) – If you are eating with a crowd, then I highly recommend these onion rings. Four whole thin cut onions deep fried to a crisp and piled high on the plate on top of a bed of The Rustic’s signature onion dip. Addictive.
Texas Quail ($21.95) – Molasses Brined Bandera quail served with [amazon_textlink asin=’B00CJ8KW8Q’ text=’jalapeno’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’22f192ad-5ee8-11e7-978c-9feb4ff34209′] spoon bread and a side of [amazon_textlink asin=’B00DBETL5M’ text=’chipotle’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’30b8f207-5ee8-11e7-bc7c-a9493d6af17d’] pecan sauce. The quail was tender, expertly seasoned, and perfectly smoked. Good with or without the pecan sauce. It was incredibly delicious, and I highly recommend this dish.
Peanut Butter Pie ($8.95) – For dessert, try this deliciously creamy and yummy crumb crust slice of pie with a fudgy layer of chocolate on the bottom, and a peanut butter cream on top is large enough to share with your friends. Add [amazon_textlink asin=’B004YT5ZTY’ text=’peanuts’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’538184d6-5ee8-11e7-bbe5-c144b1a2e238′] and a drizzle of warm [amazon_textlink asin=’B0049H3DQI’ text=’bittersweet chocolate sauce’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’6a5ef100-5ee8-11e7-a9ab-7375232864d7′], grab a spoon and dig right in. It’s good – real good.
